Does HIDfast Work With Trex, AZEK, TimberTech and PVC Decking?
HIDfast is compatible with many decking products, but not automatically with every board. Compatibility depends on board material, thickness, profile (solid vs grooved), and the decking manufacturer's current installation requirements. This guide helps you ask the right questions before you order — it does not claim universal compatibility or imply approval from any decking manufacturer.

Solid-Edge vs Grooved-Edge Boards
HIDfast can fasten square-edge, single-groove and double-groove decking. Pre-grooved boards require the grooved-board attachment, which mounts to the tool and registers fastener height off the joist surface. Solid-edge boards use a different setup. The board profile you have determines the setup and may limit which fastener model applies.
Compatibility at a Glance
General guidance — verify the current installation requirements for your exact product
| Decking material | HIDfast compatibility | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Composite (e.g., Trex, TimberTech) | May be compatible — verify | Confirm board profile, thickness and the manufacturer's hidden-fastener approval |
| PVC (e.g., AZEK) | May be compatible — verify | Confirm the specific PVC product, profile and gap requirement |
| Pressure-treated lumber | May be compatible — verify | Board thickness and preservative chemistry affect fastener selection |
| Cedar | May be compatible — verify | Confirm thickness, profile and spacing requirements |
| Hardwood | May be compatible — verify | Density and predrilling requirements vary by species |
Read carefully
Composite Decking
Many composite boards accept hidden edge fastening, but composite products differ in profile, thickness and the manufacturer's approved fastening methods. Confirm whether the manufacturer approves edge fastening for your specific board, and which gap it requires for thermal expansion.
PVC Decking
PVC decking can often be fastened with HIDfast when the correct fastener and procedure are used, but PVC products vary. Verify the exact PVC product and its installation requirements before ordering.
Pressure-Treated Lumber
Treated lumber's preservative chemistry and moisture content affect fastener selection. 304 stainless HIDfast fasteners resist corrosion in treated lumber, but board thickness and profile must match the chosen fastener. See the wood decking guide for detail.
Cedar and Hardwood
Cedar is generally workable with edge fastening, but hardwood density can require specific fasteners or predrilling. Confirm the species, board dimensions and any predrilling instructions before use.
Board Thickness and Profile
Thickness drives fastener length choice; profile (solid, single-groove, double-groove) drives setup and whether the grooved-board attachment is required. Both must be confirmed against the exact product.
Framing Material Considerations
HIDfast fasteners penetrate the joist, so joist material and moisture content affect holding power. Consistent joist spacing and sound framing are prerequisites for any hidden-fastener system.
Fastener Selection
Once compatibility is confirmed, select the fastener by length and gap using the model comparison. The grooved-board attachment is required for pre-grooved profiles.
Deck-Manufacturer Installation Requirements
Decking manufacturers publish installation instructions that govern fastener type, spacing, gap and warranty. Those requirements supersede general guidance and must be followed to preserve warranty coverage.
Warranty Considerations
Using an unapproved fastening method can void decking warranty. Confirm approval in writing where warranty matters, and keep the fastener model and installation documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does HIDfast work with Trex?
HIDfast may be compatible with some Trex profiles, but compatibility depends on the specific board profile, thickness and Trex's current installation requirements. Verify before ordering — this is not a Trex approval.
Does HIDfast work with AZEK PVC?
HIDfast can fasten some PVC products with the correct fastener and procedure, but PVC products vary. Confirm the exact AZEK product and its requirements first.
Does HIDfast work with TimberTech?
Possibly, depending on the TimberTech profile and thickness. Confirm TimberTech's current hidden-fastener approval for your specific board.
Do I need the grooved-board attachment?
Yes, for pre-grooved boards. The attachment mounts to the tool and registers fastener height off the joist. Solid-edge boards use a different setup.
Can using HIDfast void my decking warranty?
It can if the fastening method is not approved by the decking manufacturer. Confirm approval and follow the manufacturer's installation requirements to preserve warranty.
